jackieos-gose-1Brewery – Jackie O’s
Beer – Gose
Style – Gose
ABV – 5.2

Stainless conditioned, mixed culture beer brewed with salt and coriander.  No kettles were soured in the making of this beer.

This beer is made with sea salt and coriander.  The brewery then uses a proprietary blend of Brettanomyces, Saccharomyces and Lactobacillus which ferments the beer at high temperatures.  Over the course of 2 months, the beer becomes naturally tart and full of character.  The like to point out the fact that there is no kettle souring that is used to make this beer, which is often considered a short cut by a lot of people.

The beer is a great example of the old, and often misunderstood style, called Gose.  Gose is a traditional German wheat beer with coriander and sea salt, and this example nails it right on the head.  The beer is pleasantly tart, without being over the top sour.

As the sour program at Jackie O’s continues to grow and evolve, it’s extremely exciting to think about where it will go. If this is any sign of the finesse that they will bring to the sour beers – I’m thrilled to fill my fridge with them.

My Thoughts On Jackie O’s Gose

Beautiful, clear light yellow color, with a fluffy white head on top, this beer is really spectacular to look at.  Held up to the sunlight it shines bright like a brilliant gemstone.

The aroma is fresh and lemony, with a floral note as well.

When you dig in to start tasting the lemony freshness kicks in full gear.  There is a light coriander note that balances out the brightness of the tartness.  When you throw the slight bit of sea salt to the mix it rounds it all out into something really special.

This beer begs for a warm sunny day, and a comfortable chair and a breeze.
