It’s hard to believe that it’s already been a year since Rhinegeist opened their doors, feeling like they have just always been here at this point. They are brewing some amazing beers, and have become somewhat of a trendy hangout for 20 somethings in the city.
Saturday night, they invited the city to help celebrate with them their birthday, with a slew of keg tappings, world cup soccer, and live music.
The event was everything they promised and more… despite the heat, the crowd turned out en-force to help usher in many more years for the brewery. I spent the night sweating… and drinking every new tap that I could get my hands on, including bourbon barrel aged uncle (awesome… could have drank these all night), Unfiltered Truth, Zen Pale Ale infused with a Peach and Berry Tea. They also brewed a special Anniversary pale ale for the occasion.
The biggest and most exciting announcement of the evening, in my opinion was the addition of crowlers to the brewery. A crowler, for those who might not be familiar is a large can, filled from the tap, and sealed up on the spot for you to take home, a new addition to breweries in general, and the first here in the city. Exciting stuff.
So…the event was a success in my eyes, and judging by the amount of beer glasses I saw being carried away for washing, it seemed to be a success for them as well.
