I think this idea is fantastic – in a world where Craft Beer gets more and more crowded, and where taprooms start to infringe upon the realm that always belonged to the bars and retailers that sold a brewery’s beer, it’s important for our breweries to evolve, too.

What that means, or what it looks like, varies from brewery to brewery. For Urban Artifact, a big part of this is what they call their ‘Retailer Appreciation Progam’ which kicked off back in the summer with their Salted Rye Gose (read more about that and the program here)

It’s a program that sends beers exclusively to their retail partners in draft and in cans. None of the beer is available in their taproom – a move that is a rare idea in today’s craft beer “world”, and one that is meant as a thank you to their partners that make it all possible.

About Cherries Jubilee

This new addition to the series sounds awesome. The base ale gets an addition of Balaton Cherries, Vanilla Beans, Cinnamon, and Lactose. The brewery says that the flavor starts off strong with the cherry which produces a tart burst on the first sip. The combination of the cinnamon and vanilla has a hint of sweetness that balances out the tartness. Adding the lactose helps to make the beer a little smoother and adds a depth of flavor.

It’s all based on a dessert that is made with cherries and liqueur. The result is flambéed and served over vanilla ice cream. It was developed by renown French Chef Auguste Escoffier who prepared the dish for one of Queen Victoria’s Jubilees. It is thought that this dish was created for her Diamond Jubilee in 1897, which celebrated her 60th year of reign.

Keep your eyes on social media, this beer should start showing up at your favorite retailers really soon. When you do get your hands on it, be sure to tell me what you think… I’m pretty excited about this one!
