You know by now that not only do we love Sam Adams in this city… but that Sam Adams loves Cincinnati too, right? If you remember back when they opened up their Cincinnati taproom (which due to COVID is currently operating on a painful carry-out only basis), we talked about it pretty extensively. If you thought that was fun, this news will bring a flutter of joy to your heart, even in the horrible times that we’re in right now. No… it’s not taproom opening fun for drinkers… but it’s amazing news for the city (and for the brewery, too).

The Current “Good” Difficulties of Boston Beer

Before we dive into the good, good news, we have to talk about the bad, good news.

You’ve probably heard a little bit about the stuff that Boston Beer has been cranking out lately, including their smash success in Truly hard seltzer. This stuff is delicious, and evidently extremely popular with drinkers, too. It’s been so popular, in fact that they keep selling out of it. That’s right, take a deep breath… there’s a truly shortage right now. The brewery recently admitted that they most likely won’t be able to get that under control before the end of the summer, either.

The good news in that? They’ll get it under control. In fact, they anticipate that sales of Truly will not only get back under control, but may even double in 2021, and that’s fantastic news for us as drinkers… and a big part of their planned growth lies right here in Cincinnati – right on Central Parkway.

Investing Back In Cincinnati

You can’t pretend that Sam Adams doesn’t exist here in Cincy, anymore. The behemoth of a brewery is hard to ignore as you drive down central parkway, or if you find yourself on the west end near the new FCC stadium, and if you’ve been over there recently, you’ve most likely seen a bunch of construction happening around it, as well.

On Monday, the brewery announced exactly what’s going on there… and it’s BIG. This current expansion is planned to take around 18 months, add more than 100 jobs to the brewery and cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $85 million dollars when it’s all said and done.

They’re adding two new canning lines, new building extensions on both sides of the brewery, new parking and delivery areas and said in a press release that it will enable them to quadruple how much Sam Adams, Angry Orchard, Twisted Tea and Truly that they can produce here in town.

I love this brewery… and I can’t even tell you how much I love seeing a continued dedication to founder Jim Koch’s hometown of Cincinnati – raise a pint to these folks tonight… they deserve it!
