It’s easy to forget the story of Sam Adams. I get it… they’re big. That doesn’t mean they aren’t still important, though, to craft beer – and even more so, the story of craft beer in Cincinnati. I’ve written about them – and why they’re important to Cincinnati before, so I won’t do that too much here, just know that you should respect the brewery, love the taproom and support them in every way possible. Now, onward!
The Taproom, The Anniversary
Back in 2018, Sam Adams opened their long-awaited taproom in OTR, across the street from their massive production brewery (which is in the middle of a huge expansion project). Each year, on their anniversary they throw an event to celebrate the taproom, celebrate the brewery, and celebrate Cincinnati, and while 2020 is… weird, they are doing it again this year – albeit a little bit different. While yes… the taproom is opening up their patio for you to come to imbibe, they’re heavily encouraging the to-go beer options that they’ve leaned heavily on during the pandemic. They’ve even put together a special Spotify playlist for you to celebrate at home.
The real star of the show (besides the actual brewery… duh) is the beers that they’re releasing. Your ears should be perking up for this part – seriously.
The Beers
These are only going to be available November 13-15th – and they’re extremely limited… so if you stumble across the page in a few years – I’m sorry, you missed it. With that out of the way – check this out. In bottles:
- Stoutopias
- Barleytopias
- Kosmic Mother Funk Grand Cru
These three packs are going to be pretty limited, and you’ll be able to buy bottles of Stoutopias by itself, too. Keep in mind… there’s only 192 of those available… like I said. Limited.
We should talk about that Stoutopias a bit, too. If you remember back to last year’s Barleytopias, you’ll know where we’re going with this beer. It’s a big Imperial Stout, coming in at 10.9% abv. It get’s a nice little trip, though in some barrels that you might be interested in – Utopias. The resulting beer is loaded up with rich vanilla, oak and hints of maple syrup and dark chocolate.
The taproom will also be releasing some old favorites: the American Kriek and 513 if you’re looking for more. The point? You’ll wanna make sure there’s some room in your fridge before the weekend starts.
