That’s right… If the rumors hold true, we might have 13 Below cans on our shelves soon. I have to say if the rumors hold true because these rolled through the federal TTB, which means that while the brewery has approval – it doesn’t mean that it’s a for sure thing or anything like that.

Before we dive in, we should take a moment to talk about 13 Below, who they are, and why this is a good thing.

13 Below, Quiet Happiness

When we talk about the current state of craft breweries, where things are, and where things are going, we talk a lot about neighborhoods. So many neighborhoods have their “own” spot now. 13 Below is a fantastic example of this, serving their neighborhood of Sayler Park on the far west boundaries of Cincinnati quietly, calmly and giving their fans a spot to call their own.

It’s quiet, though. They don’t cause a lot of waves, don’t jump on trends – they have a quiet social media presence – it’s easy to forget about them, which is a shame.

I’m hoping that some cans from 13 below will change that. It’s time to showcase who these folks are, and give the city a few reasons to head out and spend an afternoon with some tasty beers and excellent food from Incline’s Smoke Shack!

The 13 Below Cans… Or Label Approvals

Again… I have to emphasize with this that it’s label approvals. There’s not guarantee that we’ll see these, or if we do, when we’ll see them. They came through the TTB via a contract partner, which means that the brewery reached out to someone else locally to help with production to make this happen… but they are most definitely some of the favorites that you’ll find in the taproom at 13 Below!

Let’s get to it!

Sandbag

This beer is an American Pale Ale – locking in at 5.5% ABV and 40 IBUs. The label gives us a great breakdown of the beer:

Sandbag is an American Pale Ale with mellow yeast and sweet flavors from the caramel malts with a nice, mild hop finish. The craft beer is brewed to an abv of 5.5% and 40 IBUs to commemorate the Ohio River flood of 2018.

Gravensteen

This one is a taproom favorite, for sure. It’s an Amber Ale, 5.8% ABV and 35 IBUs – a great beer to fit a lot of different situations, and excellent paired up with food!

Gravensteen is our Amber Ale fermented with a combination of American & Belgian yeasts, low hoppiness and a nice malty flavor. It has a beautiful amber hue with a moderate abv.

Submerged

Submerged has been there from the beginning, an excellent summertime sipper… a witbier. It’s only 4.7% ABV and 22 IBUs, so you can knock quite a few of them back when the situation calls for it (what situation doesn’t?)

Submerged is our witbier, also known as a Belgian-style white ale. It has a nice light golden color with a flavorful moderate body profile, hints of orange, coriander and slight hop.

Ale-tiora

If you’re a west-sider you know the loyalty that folks have to their high schools… and this one is an homage to Elder. It’s an amber ale, 5.7% ABV and 34 IBUs… even if you’re not an Elder grad, you can probably enjoy this one!

Ale-tiora was brewed for the 100th anniversary of Elder High School. It is an Amber ale with low hoppiness and a nice malty flavor. It has a beautiful amber color, with a moderate abv.

I can’t wait to see these (hopefully) hit store shelves, soon! Stay tuned!
