Colerain Township is home to a part of Cincinnati’s beer drinking culture that I don’t get the opportunity to talk about nearly as much as I should. The Germania Society. I hope that you’re at least a little bit familiar with this 25 acre piece of beer drinking paradise off of Kemper Rd. I would go out on a limb as far as to tell you that if you haven’t been to their Oktoberfest at least once, you haven’t really experienced the full Cincinnati Oktoberfest experience (theirs was the first Oktoberfest celebration in their area, after all…).
There’s a lot to talk about Germania that I will hopefully get to do at some point… from their Volksmarch to their Christkindlmarket, there are a ton of things about the society that I love but lately there has been one big thing that has caught my attention. I have been paying close attention to their increased focus on getting local beer represented at their events. That brings forth the real topic here…
The Summer Biergarten Series
A press release recently hit my inbox with the fantastic news that the society would begin hosting a really fun summer series of tap takeovers each month featuring local breweries that you are most likely familiar with.
- May 11, 2018
- June 8, 2018 – Taft’s Brewing Company
- July 27, 2018 – Braxton Brewery
- August 10, 2018 – West Side Brewing Co
- September 14, 2018 – Fretboard Brewing
- October 26, 2018
Each of these events will feature at least three of the participating brewery’s beers on tap, alongside some imported German beers too. The biergarten will feature a family friendly environment, with live music beginning at 7pm and German Food. The events run from 6pm to midnight each month, and the May and October events will feature beer from each of the four listed breweries.
If all of this sounds like it’s too good to be true, you’ll be even more excited to hear that admission to the events is completely free… just show up with your friends and family and have a few drinks and see what it’s all about.
