It’s an exciting week for fans of Karrikin Spirits in Fairfax as their first two beers hit the canning line that up until now has only been cranking out their Sparkling Spirits. Karrikin cans are certainly exciting because as we head into warmer weather (it’s coming, I promise) and we start stocking up those coolers for weekend trips, days on the patio and other outdoor adventures – you’ve got a couple of new options to quench your thirst.

Karrikin Spirits? So… Why Beer?

From day one, the distillery made it pretty clear that their focus was spirits… booze. When it comes to more portable products they’ve gone headfirst into their line of Sparkling Spirits (learn more about those if you are curious), which is clearly a smart move. All of that doesn’t mean that they don’t love beer, though. Don’t forget that two of their owners are Jeff Hunt (formerly from MadTree) and Eric Baumann (From Moerlein and Oskar Blues). Karrikin has had beer on tap since day one, and always will.

These guys still have beer in their blood.

About The Beers

When the decision to can a couple of Karrikin’s beer was made, they turned to us (quietly) to make the choice of what that would look like. The brewery looked very heavily to taproom and keg sales (as well as feedback from the public) to see what the favorites were. The choice was an easy one.

Pils – This beer is a hybrid German-Czech style pilsner, lightly filtered and comes in at 5.2% ABV. They are pricing this one at $8.99 pushing it a little cheaper than most of the beers that you’ll find around it on shelves.

Citra IPA – The ever popular West Coast IPA is next up. This one clocks in at 6.2% ABV and (surprise) is loaded up with Citra hops for a big, citrusy, bold taste. It should be priced at $9.99 a six pack.

Both beers are classic, easy-drinking, and delicious. While they both expand the Karrikin line, these Karrikin cans don’t stray too far from the overall idea of what this place is built upon – stay tuned. As soon as these hit my fridge I’ll have some tasting notes for you!

As always, if you’re curious to learn more about Karrikin – there’s a lot of info here on the site, but you can always hit up their website and social media, too!
