Cincinnati’s Breweries are Showcased Via The Untappd Community Awards

Say what you will about Untappd (and we all know that there’s plenty to say about it), it’s clear that many beer drinkers use and love the app. It’s a great way to track the beers you drink and an excellent way to see what your friends think about the beer you’re sipping (assuming they actually write thoughts and don’t just check it in). One of the most significant advantages of the app and the sheer number of check-ins that accumulate on it daily is the amount of data created. The inaugural Untappd Community Awards come from that data – and we did pretty well this year.
What Are The Untappd Community Awards?
The awards kicked off for the first time this year to highlight beers from every state and 50 countries in every one of the app’s 268 style categories. Today, the awards recognize more than 25,000 different beers, powered by check-ins on the app by its users throughout 2023.
To qualify for an award, beers had to receive at least 50 ratings from unique users throughout the year. The result is a ton of award-winning beers, though it’s important to note that while nearly 30% of the breweries on the app worldwide produced at least one award, fewer than 1.65% of the more than 1.5 million beers rated in 2023 were award winners.
Many folks will argue that Untappd doesn’t matter and that, by extension, Untappd community awards don’t matter, either. I believe that any recognition of a Cincinnati brewery is a good thing for the community.
