This Amber Ale takes you back to 1800’s Over-The-Rhine, the German neighborhood where brewing was born in Cincinnati. It is reminiscent of early settlers’ ales brewed by OTR’s first residents, but now sets the standard for today’s craft Amber Ale. The medium malt body is met with a subtle hop addition to give OTR a perfect balance.
One of my favorite go-tos…Christian Moerlein OTR pours a really stunning amber color with a nice off white head that leaves a great deal of lacing around your glass as you drink it. This beer is a slightly hoppy pale ale that has a big malt backbone (Six different malts) that starts out pretty sweet, and is immediately crushed by the hop presence (Cascade and Fuggle Hops). This is superbly balanced and a great beer for anyone who is starting out in craft beers.
The biggest advantage is that OTR is very popular and can be found in most better beer bars around the city. It’s always a good guess to try when you don’t know what to order… not to mention that they are now offering it in cans, and packaged in 15 packs for you to more efficiently stock your cooler before a party. There’s no reason that you shouldn’t be drinking a lot more of this delicious beer.
This isn’t a beer thats designed to satisfy the biggest hop heads out there, it’s just a fantastic, middle of the line-up offering of a great beer.
