Franz is our Oktoberfest beer. He’s an autumnal brew, a bit of a dreamer, often hikes in the Alps and comes back with great ideas for delicious malts and is forever hoisting barrels over his head for ’ze exercize’. Franz is our Oktoberfest brau, and our first take on a German brew. Not traditional, but über German. These malts will PUMP you UP, jaaah!
Don’t let Franz get you worked up… yes, it’s not a lager. What’s the big deal, though? Why would anyone not be happy to see breweries pushing themselves into changing things up? I love this beer, is crisp and refreshing but still screams Oktoberfest season… let’s talk about it, yah?
My Thoughts On Rhinegeist Franz
It pours a bright copper color in the glass, with a nice foamy light tan head on it.
A really nice spicy bready aroma greets you as you prepare to drink the beer. Which is exactly what this begs for… drinking.
It’s an easy drinker, just like an Oktoberfest should be… it’s light, refreshing and slightly sweet. Crisp moderate carbonation helps push a light citrusy sweetness onto the palate, unexpected and welcome after the caramel breadiness that also presents itself.
An extremely welcome addition in my opinion to a packed world of Oktoberfest beers. I love it.
