The news of Listermann losing another head brewer when Patrick Gilroy left brought up a lot of questions in the Cincy craft beer community. If you know anything about me, though… you know that I’m not one for questions. I’m not one for the negativity, or the pessimism. I love the happy side, I love the positive side. Because I have a love for growth, I love that I get to write this post for you.
The future of Listermann is on its his way.
The name Jared Lewinski might not be one familiar here in Cincinnati – and that’s a good thing. The ability of our craft beer scene to lure in major talent from other parts of the country is a sign of something big happening, and major talent definitely describes Mr. Lewinski to the ‘t’.
Who is this guy?
His accolades speak a lot:
- Trained at Niagra College, where he was president of their beer club.
- Brewed at Silversmith Brewing in Ontario
- Worked in packaging for Modern Times
- Brewed at Weyerbacher
- and most recently he was the Head Brewer at New York Beer Project
- He’s written for GoodFoodRevolution
- And now… he can add Cincinnati to his distinguished list.
I reached out to Jared to see if I could get some insight on what he is going to bring to party here in town. He emphasized that Jason and Dan have been “Wonderful” and that he feels like he’s being welcomed into a wonderful little family that makes kick ass beer.
As for what he brings to the table? In his words…
I’m excited to be making the move to a place that fits my personality as a Brewer and has a brewing culture totally in line with how I am about making beer in a real, respectful way, as well as having a sexy, robust barrel program that I am excited to inherit and expand.
This is a guy who is fresh off of building a brewing program from scratch, to get him into a brewery that in a lot of ways is building itself into something completely different than what it’s been, while still staying true to the soul that it’s known for is some really exciting stuff. If I know anything about Listermann as a brewery, they will embrace his ideas like few places would be able to.
The brewery has undergone so many changes in the last year or so, and this is just another one in line. The taproom is light years ahead of where it used to be, and they are putting out beers that would have made their minds spin if you let them taste them even 5 years ago. This is a Listermann that makes you proud to tell people that they need to visit Norwood. Jared is one more thing in line that we can get excited about.
Stay tuned as news starts to come in about this… it’s going to bring great things for the Listermann/Triple Digit of the coming years. I’ll let you know when I hear more about when you can expect to find Jared sweating away in the Listermann Brewery.
Welcome to Cincinnati, Jared. Now hurry and make me more beers, please.
