Braxton has gone and done something else that makes for a very happy Gnome, they’ve finally decided to put what I consider my favorite of all their beers in a can, 1957. The beer was last (and first) brewed back in 2015 when the city was host to the MLB All-Star game, and I fell in love. If you don’t remember the beer, it was the one that was designed to pair with (and was served with) Cracker Jack.
About 1957
Back in 1957, the Reds voted in 7 of their starters to the All-Star game. It was an achievement that happened when the city “stuffed the ballot box”. The legend states that bartenders wouldn’t even serve their patrons until they filled out a ballot or two. It was a move that cemented this city’s love for baseball into everyone’s mind.
The beer itself is an English Mild, with a really great nuttiness and caramel sweetness that really does pair awesomely with Cracker Jack (this will be the perfect beer to pair with baseball season this year). In the words of the brewery, via the can label itself:
There’s two things Cincinnati loves. Beer and Baseball. 1957 is a one of a kind beer. Utilizing specialty malts, this English Style Mild features a unique nuttiness and caramel-like sweetness that’s intended to remind you of America’s favorite ballpark snack. A faint hop presence to balance the light malt body makes this a great summer time, ‘take-me-out-to-the-ball-game’ beer.
If you missed out on this in 2015, you really need to get your hands on some, it’s the perfect balance of big flavor, but easy drinkability. Have I mentioned that I love this beer?
The Release
You can find this beer in stores starting March 22nd, and they’ll have a few fun release events that week at Buckhead, Coach’s Corner and Amerasia as well as at the taproom release party on March 31st. Of course… a beer that pairs so fantastically with Cracker Jack will be served with boxes of it while supplies last, and they’re breaking out their baseball themed pint glasses too.
Make sure that you get on Facebook, and let all your friends know that you’re going to the event!
