I’ve been busy letting you know about new beers this week – and it’s not slowing up yet.  We know that Rhinegeist is talking Funkiness for their fourth anniversary party – we’re now getting a glimpse at the centerpiece of that celebration – and with no surprise, it’s a beer!

Quadrafunk

With the success of last years ‘Trips’ – it’s not much surprise to me that they’re sticking with the wild/funky/sour side with this year’s release.

Quadrafunk is a Hoppy, Wild Ale.  It’s 6.5% ABV, and 45 IBUs… right squarely in Rhinegeist’s wheelhouse.  To learn even more, let’s look at the label:

Four years old and we’re pushing deeper into the quandaries of yeast. Quadrafunk tangles up with Brettanomyces and we’re feeling a bit wild.  Dry hopped with Nelson and Galaxy, a certain soulful Southern Hemispherical swagger swivels in this wild ale, gyrating notes of bubblegum, pineapple, and barnyard funk.  Crazed by the funk, gotta have that funk.  Quadrafunk.

Amidst all the funky references… there’s some goodies in there for sure.  Nelson and Galaxy hops, with the barnyard funkiness from the Brettanomyces?  Sounds like a winner to me!

This is one of those beers that intrigues me to see what it does over time in a cellar as well.  If you aren’t familiar with Brett, it tends to keep munching away at whatever is in the beer for a long time after it’s placed in the bottle, creating new flavors over time, and getting funkier, and funkier the longer you keep it cellared away.

Interesting indeed!
