I think they might have heard us loud and clear – we like Urban Artifact’s fruity sour beers. They’ve continued with the Urban Legend Series of beers with what they’re calling a ‘Midwest Fruit Tart’ called Fire Iron. This beer is 7.7% ABV and 3.3 PH, putting it squarely in line with the other Berry Bombs, The Gadget and Squeezebox, and squarely in line with what I want to pour into my face.
About The Beer, and When You Can Get It!
Let’s have a look at the label to learn a little more, shall we?
Fire Iron is Old West slang for your go-to handgun. This midwest Fruit Tart is brewed with 1500 lbs Pink Guava, 500 lbs banana, 400 lbs passion fruit, malted barley and flaked rice.
They aren’t messing around when they make these fruited sours… that’s a ton of fresh fruit that goes into making something like this. The brewery believes strongly that the flavor improvements that using fresh fruit brings is well worth the time, effort and money that it takes to use it. I haven’t got to try this one yet, but I can only assume knowing how Urban does things that we’re going to have a full on riot of fruit flavors on our hands. I anticipate a banana smoothie, with lots of fresh tropical notes to go along with it.
They’ve been teasing this one for a few weeks, we finally get to get our hands on it for this week’s Tap Tuesday… but since they like to have fun, they’re also releasing a full line up of variants to go along with it!
The Variants
Much like the releases for Squeezebox, and Palmistry, there are some really delicious sounding variants to put the icing on the cake of this release:
- Orange Smoothie – Orange zest and Vanilla beans added. (There’s an iguana on the bottle)
- Lemon Basil Sorbet – Lemon zest and bail leaves. (A friendly alpaca is on the bottle)
- Packing Heat – Fresh Serrano and JalapeƱo peppers (A nice little aardvark is on this bottle)
- Tamarindo – Tamarind, star anise, cinnamon, ginger and vanilla beans. (There’s a vulture on the bottle)
Although the base beer will be making its way out to Distribution (in some capacity), it doesn’t look like the variants will at all. If this is anything like the Squeezebox release was, you’re not going to be able to get these for very long, as the sour nerds across Cincinnati will be snatching them up as soon as they can.
Stay tuned… I’ll be getting you tasting notes on this one asap! I can’t wait to get it!
