Beer – Lupulin Effect
Style – Imperial IPA
ABV – 8.1%

Ohio’s hoppy beer artisans, Fat Head’s and MadTree, have teamed up to brew an aromatic, juicy, and flavorful IPA called Lupulin Effect as a follow-up to last year’s General Sherman Rye Pale Ale. This IPA features copious amounts of Chinook, Citra, and Denali hop – including a dose of Denali whole-leaf hops in the mash.

It’s hard to argue that MadTree and Fat Head’s aren’t doing some increcible things by themselves in the world of Ohio IPAs – but when they team up together, all hell is bound to break loose. Lupulin Effect provides that hell unleashing opportunity.

This beer, which was released in May of 2018, was also the first opportunity for MadTree to use a shrink-wrapped can and gave them the chance to start playing around with colors and textures that weren’t possible with printed cans. You can see this first hand with the mixture of matte and glossy printing, as well as the use of transparency to allow the color of the can to shine through.

My Thoughts On MadTree/Fat Head’s Lupulin Effect

Bold orange color with a thick foamy head on top.

The aromas are full of a ton of citrus and tropical fruity smells. This screams hops in the most delicious way possible. It’s one of those beers that makes my mouth water when I smell it.

The taste is full of passionfruit, grapefruit and some pineapple. It’s a big, fruity hop blast with a touch of bready malt to keep it on track. Nice, bracing bitterness that leaves my mouth feeling like it’s coated with sticky hop resins… I like it!

This beer is a great showcase of what a couple of Ohio’s great IPA breweries can do when they put their minds together. A fantastic example of what you can do with a “restrained” Imperial IPA.
