If you’ve been paying attention, you know that I’m a bit of a lager-geek. Dunkels are one among several styles that constantly compete in my head for what I consider my “favorite” at any given time, which is why I was a little extra excited when I heard that Taft’s and Sam Adams were teaming up for a collaboration beer this week.
About The Collaboration Beer
The collaboration beer is being called ‘Dunkel the Breweries, Dunkel the Fun! and is a Munich-style Dunkel. (You can read a lot more about the style over at CraftBeer.com)
The two breweries made this beer with a special German floor single malted barley and hopped it with German Hallertau hops to make sure it stayed as traditional as possible. It came in at 5.5% ABV, and a deep amber color, packed full of sweet bread deliciousness.
The decision to team up came down to some really simple concepts… they like each other. Sam Adams’ brewer, Chris Siegman and Taft’s head brewer Jared Hamilton are friends, and they respect what each other’s breweries are accomplishing separately right now. It only makes sense to bring that together and see what happens, right? It’s a beer that screams Cincinnati, and also speaks loudly about what these two breweries are about.
When Can You Get It?
The beer will be available on tap starting this Friday, February 21st in only three places in Cincinnati: The Sam Adams taproom in OTR, Taft’s Ale House in OTR and the Taft’s Brewpourium in Spring Grove Village. Don’t miss this one!! If you’re looking for more information about the collaboration, make sure you head over to Sam Adams’ Facebook page!
