If you happen to be out and about in a local liquor store this weekend (and you should definitely be visiting your local liquor store this weekend – it’s gonna be warm) make sure you pay a little closer attention. Theres a brand that has been hitting local shelves that you might want to be aware of: High Bank.

High Bank is a distillery out of Columbus that has been cranking out some really fantastic stuff since the summer of 2018. Born from a love of whiskey from four Columbus natives, the distillery was the first distillery/tasting room/restaurant in Columbus, and has really set the bar pretty high for any who hope to follow.

Why You Should Care About Them

When you head to a bar to grab a drink – I firmly believe that you should be drinking local as much as you can. That isn’t just limited to your beer, and it’s also not just limited to Cincinnati. As we start to spread out the proverbial net a little bit, there are some really great options from places busting their butts to provide a great product to their communities.

High Bank is a perfect example of that.

The tasting room/restaurant up in Columbus is amazing – and hopefully sometime soon I’ll have a little bit of content to give you a peek inside: but for now, this is 100% about their product. Their product is beautifully done.

The San Francisco World Spirits Competition

You don’t need to take my word for it (though I like to think that my opinion has a little more weight than even the San Francisco World Spirits Competition). Medals speak loudly, and they speak for themselves.

Every year, judges come together (40 different judges this year) to judge spirits across 31 different categories to discover what the ‘cream of the crop’ is for the year. It’s the 2nd oldest spirits competition in the world, and this year there were more than 2,500 spirits that entered the competition.

It’s a big deal.

This year High Bank’s Barrel-Proof Whiskey war took home a double gold medal as the best American blended whiskey, beating out more than 1000 other whiskey brands to do so.

That’s not all, either. The Whiskey War Double Oaked took home a gold, the Whiskey War Barrel Select took home a gold, Regular Whiskey War took home a silver, Whiskey War midnight cask took home a bronze, and their Barrel Select Statehouse gin took home a bronze.

Do you see my point, here? They have a great product.

What You Should Do About It

I think that you need to get out and drink this weekend. I’m also going to take it a step farther and tell you that you should probably drink some High Bank this weekend. Go to their website and hit the finder to see what’s in stock near you, and get some.

They just started distributing their products here in town, and I think that we need to welcome them with open arms.
