Tomorrow is an exhilarating day for the folks at Hamilton’s Municipal Brew Works. The more I think of it, it’s a pretty exciting day for the folks of Hamilton, too. Heck – since we’re on that train… it’s an exciting day for Greater Cincinnati Beer!
The brewery is opening the doors on its second location, a smaller, pilot brewhouse, and taproom on 10/1/22 and it’s a big move not just for them – but for Spooky Nook as it nears completion, too.
About The Old Space
Municipal Brew Works has been an incredible place ever since it opened its doors back in June 2016. It’s a brewery that kicked off a new wave of re-development and re-envisioning of what downtown Hamilton could be. Even from the grand opening, though… a few issues became clear to fans of the brewery. Mostly in that, there were way more of us than there was room to hang out and drink.
Municipal was too small.
They’ve done a wonderful job working with what they have, and it’s not like Municipal is uncomfortable, or anything. They maxed out their capacity pretty quickly, though – and without space for a smaller brewhouse in the already packed brewery… they were a little stuck.
That’s when they started exploring new options. They didn’t want to abandon their current location, and the more they started looking around for bigger production breweries, the more it just didn’t seem to fit who they were. That was when Spooky Nook came along, and the pieces fell into place.
About The New Space
It’s fitting that Municipal was the first tenant to sign on in the Spooky Nook compound… it’s sort of their “thing” to kick off stuff like this.
Their new taproom takes up around 5,000 square feet in the building, right down the hallway from the hotel in the complex. It solves a ton of the issues from their other taproom. It’s bigger, it’s warmer, it’s got more cold space to store kegs of beer… and it has a whole second brewhouse to brew smaller batches of their beers, too.
This is only good news for fans of what they’re already doing. You’ll see more variety, you’ll have a great new space to sit and have a pint or two (especially good when the weather isn’t awesome and you have to hang out inside).
Make sure you add to your calendar a trip out to Hamilton. There’s a new thing – it’s called the Taproom to Taproom Dora walk (I just made that up) – Hamilton’s DORA is massive, it’s 291 acres total and encompasses all the space that you need to walk from the original taproom, over to the new one — you know what to do!
In the meantime, make sure you check out Municipal over on their website or read all about them here on the website!
