India Pale Ale Brewed with Blood Orange. Blood. Sweat. Cheers. It’s the IPA of the tiger.
This was so popular when it was first offered up on draft around town that the city demanded it return to us. MadTree, of course, complied with the collective demand, and stepped it up a notch by surprising us all with packaging in the form of six packs of cans, just in time for the football season.
If you’re a little dense – the orange and black color scheme of this beer makes drinking it while rooting for the Bengals a perfect pairing.
My Thoughts On MadTree Blood Orange Psychopathy
There is a few people around that might like to call fruited IPAs “trendy” – and I’m not sure that I care what they think, because this is flipping great.
It pours a bit hazy in the glass – ok… a lot hazy. It looks like a tall glass of orange juice mixed with a bit of beer…. beermosa. The aromas that fire off the top of the beermosa are almost all fruit… orange, some lemony notes and a floral swirl if you get the right bit of it.
It’s a lot of orange in the flavor, but underneath it all is a bitter hop bite that reminds you that you are in fact drinking a beer. The blood orange lifts the hops to a place that they couldn’t go by themselves, and makes this one extremely drinkable and refreshing. As it warms, more of the hop flavor starts to come out of the beer, making this a really interesting drink, that can change as the night progresses.
