Brewery- Christian Moerlein
Beer- Helltown Rye OT
ABV- 5.8%
IBU- 54
A robust American Brown Ale clocking in at 5.8% ABV. This ale is brewed with 23% malted rye for a distinctively spicy finish and dry hopped with a blend of American and New Zealand hops. A complex blend of citrus, pepper, and chocolate that harkens back to the brawling and revelry that occurred in Cincinnati’s Northside neighborhood in the early 19th Century. Helltown can always use a little Rye-ot to spice things up.
This American brown stands out due to it’s obvious addition of rye malt, and does so proudly. Spicy and robust, this is a wonderful fall beer to stand up to the colder weather and falling leaves that surround us.
It’s a deep mahogany color with a big fluffy tan head that bursts with the aromas of bread and earthy grains. There is a slight hop presence, but the real star of this beer is it’s wonderful rye notes. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite Moerlein brews and is something that, if you enjoy rye, need to try out for yourself.
