There are a lot of Independent Craft Breweries in the United States these days. There are also a lot of breweries that may look on the outside to fall into that category, all the while they are actually being owned by larger, not so craft breweries.
This isn’t really the place for me to try to explain how I feel about large breweries buying up craft breweries… and it’s a complicated topic that I’m not sure I want to try to dig into quite yet. I do want to help you to know who owns your breweries to the best of my ability.
What’s important to note on top of all of what is contained here, is that it says nothing about the ownership of the smaller craft breweries who are independently owned. Do your research as much as you can – there are some shady people investing, and owning a lot of other places too – it’s not just big beer that we need to be concerned about.
This also doesn’t even start to touch the “imports” that are also owned by big beer… some of which aren’t even imported anymore, they’re brewed here. I might tackle that in the future too. This stuff gets complicated!
Sooo… with that long winded introduction – who owns whom anymore?
