A Double IPA Brewed for our first anniversary
There isn’t much in the way of an official description of this beer from Hamilton, Ohio’s Municipal Brew Works… but that doesn’t mean that this beer doesn’t speak for itself if you’’ve snatched up one of the limited run of bottles that made their way around from this years anniversary batch of beer.
Municipal Brew Works released this beer in their taproom on draft and in 22oz bombers to celebrate their first year on 6/10/2017, and what a way to celebrate their first trip around the sun!
This big IPA uses locally sourced honey to kick the backend sweetness up a notch or 5 to balance out the big hoppy personality of the beer.
My Thoughts On Municipal Brew Works Anniversary Series #1
I think that this beer is a fantastic first foray into the world of packaging, and an even better way to celebrate your first year in business.
The beer pours a bright, reddish brown, rusty gold color with a big beige head on top that leaves a thick lacing on the glass.
Aromas are caramel, toasty bread and a floral hoppiness. There is a really great balance to this beer from the very get-go.
The taste is BIG. The resin and pine hops hit first, followed quickly by the toasty malt body and finishing with the sweetness from the honey. It all plays off each other very well, just in a bigger, bolder way. This is a fantastic example of what a Double IPA can be. Big flavors, while still keeping itself drinkable and balanced. Well done, Municipal!
