LEXINGTON, Ohio, Nov. 30, 2017 – Laxton Hollow Brewing Works, one of a small number of cask-exclusive breweries in the United States, is launching Grab-A-Cask™ mini casks into the Ohio market on December 7. The new product will contain 5 liters (1.32 gallons) of cask-conditioned ale.
“We have had many requests for a portable option for our beers,” says Owner and Brewer Ken Dudley. “Cask ale really doesn’t work in growlers, and we were looking for an alternative that could provide the authentic character that makes this kind of beer special.”
Lord Badger Bitter will be the first of the brewery’s line of traditional ales offered in the Grab-A-Cask format. Lord Badger is a medium-bodied pale ale with a light copper color and a caramel undertone. Made with floor-malted barley and crystal malts from the UK, this ale is finished with Target, Hersbrucker and Styrian Savinjski hops.
The 5-liter casks contain more than ten pints of beer and feature artwork by prominent illustrator Omar Rayyan. A QR code will assist consumers with preparing the cask for service, and each Grab-A-Cask will include a Laxton Hollow trading card showcasing the original artwork and providing details about the beer.
Cask ale differs from common keg and bottle beer in that it naturally carbonates as it completes fermentation in sealed barrels, creating a soft palate and unique flavor notes.
