Brewery – Rhinegeist
Beer – Infinite Dawn
Style – Golden Sour Ale
ABV – 6.5%

With reverential intent and an effervescent yawp, we begin.  A Sour Blonde Ale, Infinite Dawn balances tangerine, pear and apple aromas with subtle rays of vanilla, oak and sourness.  It is where we were, where we are, and where we hope to be – the outer reaches.

What a great way to kick of a new series from Cincinnati’s Rhinegeist brewery.  The outer reaches series is designed to push the boundaries of what beer is, and what beer can be – and this knocks it out of the park.

This all started back in 2013 with some experiementing in a 5 gallon carboy from Rhinegeist’s Luke Cole it kept growing and evolving until things started turning into something really special in 2017, which brings us to the current launch of ‘The Outer Reaches sour series”.

The series (and this beer) were released on April 6, 2018 with 500ml bottles corked and caged being the medium of choice – adding to the experience that is miles away from the Panthers, Saber Tooth Tigers, Bubbles and Truths that so many people think of when they think of Rhinegeist.

My Thoughts On Infinite Dawn

After the cork pops out of the bottle with a loud hurrah this fizzy golden beer makes it’s way into your glass with a big, bubbly, effervescent head on top.

Aromas are light, but if you give it a moment, there are notes of tangerine and apples with a light dusty funk tucked away behind them.  It’s restrained, but fun to dive into and explore.

The taste doesn’t punch you in the face with sour or funk, instead using the bright carbonation to keep the beer dancing on the tounge.  It reminds me of a cider as much as it does a beer.  Full of light fruit notes and that earthy funkiness – this keeps changing as you work your way through the glass.  I am blown away by how much I enjoyed this.  This takes the sour game here in Cincinnati and lifts it up to a whole new level… I can’t wait to see what else Rhinegeist has up their sleeves.
