It’s hard to wait sometimes, I know. We like things now, or even ten minutes ago if we can make that happen, but they do always tell us that good things come to those who wait. I don’t know if that’s better expressed then how it is in a bottle of whiskey – which is why I have high hopes and a thirsty palate waiting to get my hands on a bottle of this new 2 Shot Straight Rye Whiskey from Shumrick & Leys.
The whiskey has been aging for 6 years, tucked away in a “little red barn on the banks of the East Fork of the Little Miami River, building a complex flavor profile that according to the label is a “True Delight”. The folks at Shumrick and Leys go on to say that it is perfectly weathered under harsh conditions until just the right amount of spicy and fruity flavors are imparted… umm… yeah. Sign me up.
I’m going to go out on a limb and say that this spirit was originally purchased from our old friends out at MGP in Lawrenceburg before being aged on white oak by the folks at Shumrick and Leys, since the label I’m looking at says it was distilled in Lawrenceburg. I don’t have any issue with that, though… and in fact should probably get something written up for you in the near future so that you can understand what that does (and doesn’t) mean for your booze.
When Can You Get It?
Here’s what you really want to know… you can get this spirit starting tomorrow, 5/19 – and it will not only be available in bottles at Shumrick and Leys, but for tastes too! The distillery is located at 2810 Highland Ave, in Norwood and they’re open from 4-10 on Fridays and from 1-10 on Saturdays!
