In the past, I’ve talked a few times about the struggle of bringing food into the hands of their customers for Cincinnati’s breweries. Some places are full on restaurants – operating two businesses at the same time. Other taprooms have gone the food truck route, relying on trucks to come into the taproom and serve up food.

Somewhere In between are breweries like Wooden Cask, building out a space inside their walls for an outside vendor to come in and operate a restaurant as it’s own entity.  It’s the best of both worlds, food for us, and a brewery that can still focus on what they do, make beer.

Drunken Hog

That brings us to Drunken Hog.  Founded by Trevor Gorman with is cousin and “co-pitmaster” David Beckmeyer in 2010 as an obsession around barbecue.  Things quickly moved from a hobby shared with friends and family to small pop-up events serving the public.

Much like the brewing industry around them, Drunken Hog couldn’t silence that voice that lingers behind anyone with a deep passion for something.  The need to keep pushing things and bring their love into the hands of more bbq fans was a real one, and when the opportunity to partner up with a local brewery for their first permanent location came up, the answer was a simple one.

Wooden Cask

Wooden Cask had a space in their taproom that was previously occupied by The Farmstand Cafe, and when it became vacant their sadness over the loss was quickly replaced by excitement over the possibilities.  Beer and Barbecue are a match made in heaven.

The restaurant, which is set to open in mid-October will serve up traditional BBQ staples as well as weekly and daily specials too.  We’re talking pulled pork, pulled chicken, smoked sausage and multiple side items to choose from.  On the weekends you’ll find brisket, beef ribs, and wings too.

The kitchen will be open:

  • Tuesday – Thursday 5pm-9pm
  • Friday – 4pm – 10pm
  • Saturday – 11:30am-10pm
  • Sunday – 12pm – 7pm

Make sure you get out and see what they’re doing.  I think a big delicious plate of barbecue would go perfectly with a lot of the stuff that Wooden Cask is making, everything from Yorkshire to their new Pumpkin beer… I’m excited, and you should be too!
