This whole thing is getting crazy and is still going to get even more nuts. I’m not going to talk about Corona Virus (COVID 19), downplay it or lecture folks who aren’t taking it seriously… this most definitely isn’t that type of website as you all know by now. We talk about drinking. There are no viruses that I’ve met that are going to stop this city from drinking. But as more and more places are forced to cancel events, close public spaces and limit person to person contact… what the heck are we supposed to do? What are our local taprooms supposed to do? Fibonacci definitely has a plan… and it starts with a drive-thru and home delivery.

There are some breweries in town that could shut down their taproom tomorrow and keep on trucking just fine without blinking an eye… but not many. Taproom business… person to person contact, has become an integral part of what the craft beer business is all about. This is extremely evident in small places like Fibonacci. To close their taproom doors – be it voluntary or forced – would be devastating to a place like Fib. As things keep getting crazy, the brewery is certainly thinking outside the box in their preparation and looking. back at a couple conversations that they had back when laying out plans for their business.

Drive-Thru Beer

I can still remember when Fibonacci was in their construction phase, and they were working on what would become their taproom. Walking through the former florist shop the topic moved to the drive-thru window that was situated in the corner, in a spot that would eventually be behind their bar. “Wouldn’t it be cool if you could just drive through on your way home and grab a growler of beer?” someone casually mentioned – yes… yes it would.

They didn’t realize that something like Coronavirus would push them into getting the ball rolling – but I’ll take it. Effective immediately, you can snag some beer without needing to walk into the taproom to do it. Not only does this help out folks who are in these ‘at risk’ categories – it lays down a really amazing foundation for an option to still run a business, even if the taproom isn’t able to be open.

But it’s not all… Fibonacci’s President Betty Bollas used to be in HR, she’s great at getting ahead of shit situations like this.

Home Freaking Delivery

There were lots of questions, and was a ton of thought that went into this part. Again, though, I can remember conversations pretty early on about the option of online ordering… home delivery or shipping and if it could be used as part of Fibonacci’s business, and here we are.

The brewery will be launching a new side of their business in “a few days” with online ordering. You’ll be able to get on and order up your Growlers, Howlers or bottles of beer and if you live within a five-mile radius of certain zip codes… get it brought right to your home. If you’re outside of their ‘zone’, you’ll still be able to pick up your order at the brewery (use that drive-thru). That’s right… Fibonacci is going to offer home delivery. With the help of trucking software and telematics integration (ones with a similar caliber to the software at https://www.tenstreet.com/compliance) done on the trucks, you can rest assured that your beer will arrive at your doorstep, safe and sound!

Keep your eyes peeled on Fibonacci’s website and social media in the coming days as they announce more details of the home delivery side of things – but the drive-thru? Open now.

As always, if you want to learn more about Fibonacci you can do it right here on the blog… but I think that this whole plan says a lot about who they are. It’s easy to get caught up as a small business in how something like this is going to affect you, and what you do. And here were are with a really, really small business – one of the cities smallest breweries – putting their customers front and center and prepping for the worst. The best part? Even if things don’t get as bad as it seems like they’re going to, we’re still winning here with two new options to quickly snag beer if we can’t make it into the taproom for a pint or two.

Be Gnarly… Drive-Thru for your beer.
