Urban Artifact’s Pickle… it’s the beer from Urban Artifact that has become one of my favorite seasonal releases has also spawned some of my favorite Untappd reviews. You’ll remember this gem: “I hate pickles, I hate this beer” or “Tastes just like pickle… unfortunately I really don’t like pickle” – or, how about a user who said that the beer “tastes just like a salad” before giving it a low rating? I love it.

If you don’t like pickles… this beer might not be for you, if you couldn’t figure that out.

Urban Artifact certainly has a fervent group of fans who yearn for this release each year – and they’re going to be really happy to hear that it’s that time again – Pickle is back, and better than ever. Mark those calendars for June, 22nd.

About The Beer

I’ve written notes about this one before – and it’s been written about in lots of great articles (here, here, here for example) – but, we should still take a little bit of a peek into what makes this beer tick a little bit.

Urban Artifact’s Pickle starts out with a base Gose beer, not unlike Keypunch their cult-favorite Key Lime Gose. This one takes a different turn, though, with the addition of 1,000 pounds of cucumber (for a 30bbl batch), 9 pounds of sea salt, 2 pounds of fresh dill, and 1 pound of coriander. In typical Urban Artifact fashion, the beer is over fruited – big flavored – and doesn’t apologize for what it is in even the slightest.

It nails the pickle character, and creates a beer that has such an unrivaled personality that it’s worthy of a release event to showcase it properly.

This Year’s Release

As I mentioned, this year it all kicks off starting on June 22nd when the beer will start to make it’s way all around Urban Artifact’s distribution network. New this year is your ability to hop onto the brewery’s online store to order your beer and have it delivered (starting 6/26) which should make it easy for you to snag your pickle beers if you happen to live in one of the many states that UA ships to now (I think that they ship to something like 9 states, currently).

It’s all exciting, but the real good stuff comes into play when you hear about what all this year’s release entails – that’s right. More pickley goodness. In addition to their “standard” pickle beer in 12oz six packs, the brewery is letting loose with some special small batch variants and a really awesome “pickle pack” that you’ll wanna stash in that online shopping cart.

The Pickle Pack is a mixed pack of four 16oz cans featuring three new pickle variants:

  • Spicy Pickle
  • Extra Spicy Pickle
  • Chicago Relish
  • Bread & Butter

Are you excited, yet? You should be. Get ready for pickle season.
