The long debate is over… finally. I have heard plenty of you make the argument that the amazing Sparkling Spirits from Karrikin are just Seltzer in disguise… which they aren’t. Karrikin is making that even more clear this month with the introduction of their new line of Seltzer dubbed Modka.

How Is Modka Different?

There are a ton of seltzers out there – I mean, even here in Cincinnati you have choices at a lot of our local taprooms. While, yes, some of these seltzers are absolutely fantastic, some just… well… aren’t. Modka takes one of my biggest gripes about a lot of “not so good” seltzer and fixes it. Instead of using fermented sugar base, or malt base and trying to keep it as clean as possible – they take a cue from how they produce their Sparkling Spirits and use a base of their craft vodka. The result is a seltzer that hits the same sweet spots as even the best seltzers out there… but does it with ease. Clean, refreshing, ease.

Modka Seltzer’s Nutrition Info

Look, don’t go thinking that any seltzer or alcoholic drink is going to be “good for you”. I recognize, though, that a lot of a folks pick up a seltzer vs a beer because it might be a healthier option that some other choices. The nutritional facts about these, then is going to be important. Modka doesn’t let up here, either. They come in at only 98 calories, and are sugar, sodium, and gluten free. At 5% ABV, they pack enough of a punch to stand up next to any of the “other guys”, but do it with a finesse that I think you’re going to like.

Modka Seltzer Flavors

Modka seltzer comes in four different flavors, all available in their variety pack.

Here’s where it gets really fun – because we all know that no matter how great a seltzer is, it is only as good as the flavors that it brings to the party. Modka has some great flavors, all available in their 12 can variety pack:

  • Pineapple & Mango
  • Blood Orange
  • Peach
  • Black Cherry

There’s something here for any season, and any mood that you might be in – but I have the sneaking suspicion that we aren’t done seeing flavors for this line… knowing Karrikin and their desire to keep playing around and experimenting – I think we’re in for a lot of fun treats in the future, too!
