Another step towards MadTree showcasing their dedication to the outdoors, and the greater good, their Alcove location in OTR has achieved a LEED Gold certificate. They’re now one of only four restaurants in the OTR/Pendleton area that has done this, which is one of the big reasons it’s so exciting.

How The Alcove Does Things Differently

From day one, when MadTree and their developer, 3CDC were extremely deliberate with the design of the Alcove space, to get to this point. For example:

  • 99% of the original structure was preserved during the construction phase.
  • High-efficiency LED lighting was installed
  • High-Grade air filters, CO2 sensors, and VOC air quality monitors were installed.

As MadTree has continued to keep growing, it’s become clear to them that the who of MadTree is just as important as what they do. And while when you grab a beer or stop in for a bite to eat, LEED certification might not be front and center in your mind – it’s a symbol of that part of the brewery’s personality. It’s one of the many things that set them apart from their peers and makes me feel really great about what is happening in Cincinnati beer today.

What Is LEED Certification, Anyways?

LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. It’s the most widely used green building rating system in the world. The certification program provides a framework for healthy, efficient, and cost-saving green buildings that can carry us into the future of a much-needed, more sustainable society.

It’s also not an easy thing to achieve.

The Alcove

I guess this is a good sign that I need to get back down to the Alcove soon to get some pictures taken, and showcase what the space is all about here on the blog. Let this be a call to action for you, though to do the same. From their living wall that features more than 2,000 plants to a Pollinator Garden with their 1% for the planet partner, Rothenberg Rooftop Garden… the space is 100% MadTree, while pushing things even further in a direction that is really important to them as a company.

You can expect farm-to-table dishes focusing on local ingredients… a wine list that only features B-Corp, biodynamic or female-owned vineyards, and plenty of other things that scream ‘MadTree’. We should all be really proud to have these folks here in Cincinnati!
