Throwing much of their community into an eager uproar, certainly my house which is located within a very short drive of their new taproom, today was an exciting day when we learned of the upcoming Municipal Brew Works Grand Opening.  The brewery which has been in the works for more than 2 years at this point will open their doors to the eager public on June 8th.

Finally!

Municipal Grand Opening

Why The Short Notice?

As I’ve been spreading the word, I’m getting a lot of disappointed people saying they won’t be able to make it during the week.  What gives?

This is only coming from me, so take it with a grain of salt…but here’s what I think.  #1 – This has been a long time coming.  They wanted to get these doors open as soon as they possibly could.  They’ve been tossing dates around for a few months now, but couldn’t put anything into stone until they knew they’d have a few beers available for us to drink.  Once they had beer in tanks/kegs, they threw it out there.  #2 – It’s a fine line that breweries and we bloggers have to tread when we hype up a new opening.  We’ve seen breweries time and times again build up a grand opening, only to start running out of beer for week 2.  A slow, steady growth is always better for all of us.

If it’s too short of notice for you, relax a little bit.  There will be other days, other times for you to pull up a stool and have a drink.  In fact, waiting only means that when you do show up to the taproom, there will be more beers for you to drink!  I’ll keep you updated  on operating hours and information as it becomes available to me… So stay tuned.

BrewCastCoverA Brewcast To Kick It Off!

If you aren’t paying attention, I’m also a co-host on a fantastic Cincinnati beer podcast called Cincy Brewcast (give us a follow on iTunes, Stitcher, Spreaker, Soundcloud, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube…all that stuff.). Not content with just drinking beer and reporting back to you guys, we’re going to kick off the Municipal Brew Works Grand Opening Week with an on location episode from their taproom on Monday evening.

We’ll be kicking the show off a little early… So be ready to tune in live on Periscope sometime around or after 5pm to get the first look at what is in store for you on Wednesday’s grand opening event.

I can give you a little sneak peek at what you can expect though…

To be fair, I haven’t seen the finished product of the Municipal Taproom.  I made my visit back in March when things were still very much “under construction” – there was a fine layer of dust on all the tanks which had yet to be fired up for the first time.

It was still beautiful, though.  Not only is the taproom spacious and a nice mix of old and new, the building that houses the brewery is a marvel to see in downtown Hamilton.  Art Deco marble with stainless steel accents only touches the tip of the iceberg of what this building has in store for the curious visitor.  The basement houses an old firing range, and the upper floors house a court and a jail.  Hit up this great post by Raging Hop for a great look inside the building and the taproom for an up close look at it all.

As for what beers you can look for… We know that they’ve got their Blonde Ale and an IPA ready to go… But after all the speculation we know a little bit more about what’s coming:

  • Blonde Ale
  • Courageous – IPA
  • Station 2 – Rye Pale Ale – Named after the fire station that once lived in their brewery
  • 1791 – Belgian Stout – Named after the year that Hamilton was founded
  • Dark Shell – Black IPA
  • 10-66 – Double IPA – named after the police code for a drunk and disorderly.
  • Blonde Ale with Watermelon – I’ve heard some really great ideas for the name of this beer… I can’t wait to see this seasonal become a reality.
  • Long Slumber – Old Ale
  • Little Chicago – Pilsner

Stay Tuned!!!!
