I get a little jealous, and possessive of our beer… I don’t like to share what we have with other cities. I will say, though… if another city is going to get a taproom, I’m ok with it being Columbus. I think it’s exciting to see our brewery culture spreading outside of this city a little bit, and the folks up there deserves to get a little piece of Cincy I guess.
Taft’s is preparing to open up the first out of town version of their ‘Brewpourium’ this weekend (11/15) in the Franklinton neighborhood.
About The Taproom
That’s what I’m calling this… much like our own taprooms down here in Cincy (BrewDog and Platform), while there is brewing that is going to take place at Taft’s in Columbus, it’s not the focus. They’ll be pouring mostly beer that comes up from their massive production brewery in Spring Grove Village.
The Columbus Brewpourium is located at 440 West Broad Street, Columbus and while on paper, the 16 taps and New Haven-style Apizza might sound familiar… they’ve gone to great lengths to make sure that things feel familiar, but still fresh and new for the brand.
The taproom is 5,800 square feet and is filled with 80s and 90s pop art on the walls. They built in old-school gaming machines into the bar itself, and built a stage (that they lovingly call ‘the tub’) for live music and stand up comedy.
In addition, there is also a 2,000 square foot patio that should open next spring when the weather decides it likes us again.
What This Means For Taft’s
Taft’s didn’t beat around the proverbial bush when they opened up their first Brewpourium here in Cincy. They believe that this concept is something that can (and will) work in other cities. While I don’t foresee them ever going big on a brewing scale somewhere else (seriously, have you seen how great their production brewery is?) I 100% believe that the idea of opening smaller taprooms in other cities that already embrace the Taft’s brand could be the way of the future.
I expect that we aren’t done seeing this concept play in other cities… keep watching!
If you find yourself in Columbus make sure you swing by the space to see what they’ve done, and if you know anyone in the area – tell them to stop by and have a taste of Cincinnati!
