All About Warped Wing
2014 is a long time ago in the world of craft beer. Downtown Dayton looked a little different than it does today, also. When the founders of Warped Wing decided to open their brewery in the heart of the city, there were a lot of folks that didn’t think it was the best plan. There were lots of places that they thought would suit a craft brewery better – thank goodness the team didn’t listen.
They jumped in big – self-distribution, a massive warehouse taproom in the heart of the city. Quickly they made a name for themselves not just around their home of Dayton Ohio, but throughout Ohio – even down here in Cincinnati where we aren’t always as friendly with folks coming in from other places with their beer.
The beers pay homage to Dayton, Ohio. It’s a civic pride that isn’t always front and center with new breweries as it might have been at one time. Warped Wing understands how to not just exist in a community, but to absolutely make it a part of who they are at the very core. It’s easy to see why they’ve been able to grow the way they have.
What’s Warped Wing Like?
Warped Wing has grown into a three-taproom business, and each of their taprooms have unique personalities for different situations.
The main taproom is exactly what you think of when you think of a craft brewery. It’s built in a historic building – the space used to house the Buckeye Iron and Glassworks foundry and was built in 1938. Wide-open, concrete space with a big old brewhouse tucked in one side of the building.
Then you have their second location in Springboro – this space is known as the Barrel Room and Smokery – it’s a restaurant, warehouse, and barrel-aging facility. The brewery made this space a little more polished than the taproom. Its comfortable and designed from the ground up around guest experience. Read more about the barrel house right here.
Finally, rounding out the trio of taprooms is their newest – which opens its doors in February of 2022. The Mason, Ohio taproom takes over the former Brazenhead Irish Pub – you can read more about it here – and I’ll definitely be sharing more about it once I get a chance to snag a beer there!
